I help sales people and other professionals get better results because I teach them how to communicate better. Being called "a great ... speaker filtered through a bit of the comedic genius of Rita Rudner" has been my greatest compliment. That, and being nicknamed, "SpeakerSue." Welcome!

Thank you for your comment. You're right about email and it should be informal - and still professional. It's easy to forget that every time we communicate, we represent our organization and brand. Being polite always gains points.

Great insight. Above are Definitely more exciting openings to the email.
Email has become so informal, some people even abbreviate (like we do with text) and I don't know what they are saying

Hi and thank you so much! You are so right about opening and closing politely is simply good manners. It shows respect for and to the other person.

I must admit that I had to check wikipedia to define valediction <A> and what a lovely word! (This American loves learning how the rest of the world communicates.)
Warmest regards,
Sue

Good afternoon Sue,
Great article and I am so glad that you chose to write about e-mail salutation. I always begin an e-mail with good morning/afternoon/evening depending on the time that it is sent. It is very sad that a large proportion of the e-mails that I receive do not have a salutation or a valediction. It is just good manners and courteous to include both.
