When email is the primary communication tool to build a relationship, every word matters.

In an informal and skewed study (my Facebook , LinkedIn  and Twitter followers) of 2500+ business professionals, here are the words that make you look like a jerk.

I’m not saying this is an exhaustive list because it’s super easy to turn off a reader who doesn’t want to like you.

Start by replacing these outdated, fake, silly words and phrases with a more authentic approach to boost your credibility and elevate the respect you receive.

your thoughts
reach out
touch base
bleeding edge
Just checking in
up level
pivot
amazing
curated
think out of the box
aforementioned
cascade the information
unpack; unpacking

make sense?

leveraging
synergies
apologize

Oh, and buzzword.

BONUS:
Outdated words (attendee, facility, FYI) are just that. So stop.

But when “new” words or phrases are used too often, their irritant value ramps up.
