Say THIS at the start of every prospecting email

By December 10, 2021No Comments

Admitted email geek here and I’m even more excited this week than usual.

“I wish I could see you, but for now I’m going to send a virtual hug your way.”
“Sending a virtual high five.”
“Here’s a virtual handshake.”

Vanessa Van Edwards (awesome) and Dr. Paul Zak (awesome-er) tested the hypothesis that virtual presentations could be more productive and much more effective when hosts start with warm and emotionally pleasing – instead of neutral – greetings. They used smart watches and things that I know nothing about and found a 25% higher immersion response with warmer greetings.

It’s true with email too! By adding warm caring words to your email – especially toward the beginning and also the end, your last statement – you set the tone for increased rapport and engagement.

Of course, this immediately eliminates all those wasted space, fake openings like:
How are you?
I hope this finds you well.

And biographical beginnings like:
My name is ____ and I’m writing because _____
I’m writing to introduce myself ____

On the other hand, it elevates openings that create excitement, help buyers envision success, and show warmth and personality.
Oh, how I wish we could sit next to each other instead of email _____
Your comment really made me think about _____

So what works?

Excitement. Truth. Ease. Confidence. Novelty.

Add warm, authentic words to your first few sentences to dramatically increase rapport and success.

Before you go—
