Why do so many smart people forget that what seems so clever in the moment, may seem less so, later? I’m talking www here.

Merlin Mann’s 43 Folders compared good email etiquette to wearing pants in the grocery store. It’s just easier to get the result we want (groceries) when we follow accepted practices (pants). Same with email.

We get that a flaming email sent directly to ones manager (or indirectly and forwarded) might get results – but not the kind we want. But what about the stuff posted in blogs – ours and on others – or on FaceBook, MySpace, Twitter, and on?

The nice part about being older is that the stuff I did, I didn’t document in excruciating detail. I’m sure I would have, if I could have, and I can’t begin to tell you how thankful I am that I couldn’t and didn’t.

Promise me you’ll think about it. If you’re older than 15, stop acting like you aren’t because people, people are reading.
