You’re ready to connect with past leads, except you’ve been radio silent for the last few or thirty months.

How to start?

It’s way too easy to go the virus route.
How have you been holding up during these difficult past few months?
I’m hopeful you’ve been well during these difficult times.
I just wanted to check in and see how you are doing in these uncertain times.

These openings inadvertently add negative energy and drama.

Yes, you can’t acknowledge the elephant in the room. But instead of a fake rapport builder, try a more authentic, positive touchpoint: time.

Here are a few examples of how I’ve started recent emails with prospective clients that I haven’t connected with during this entire situation. (Notice the extremes… but different strokes for different folks, as they say!)
•Is time flying for you too?
•Does it seem like a million years since we last connected?
•A few months ago – or was it a lifetime?! – you had expressed interest in fresh tools to help your team drive revenue…

Remember dear readers of this blog, we don’t bounce back; we bounce forward.

Be honest.
Be human.
Be positive.
Be relevant.

And, if you can add a bit of lightness to the situation – your personality, your brand’s personality, your product or service allows it – please give yourself permission to do it!
