Do your emails “go for the kill?” It’s an awful expression but so are emails that say things like:
“I sent you an email a few days ago regarding X but you have not responded. Let me know if you are interested,”
“Are you the right person to talk to about this?”
“Haven’t heard back from you regarding my previous email. Are you still interested?”
“I haven’t been able to reach you so I assume you are not interested in X. This will be my last outreach. If I have made a mistake please let me know —“
“Not sure if you received my first email, but the reason I’d briefly like to speak to you is —“
You want connections, not deletes! Do this instead:
Human before task. Create desire before asking for action.
Make it about them. Do you notice how each of the above examples are about the seller?
Help them feel safe and smart not dumb and dumber.
Add value to the email so they want to read it. If you find yourself using the lame excuse “I’m not sure if you received my other email,” you can be confident that they did. And your message annoyed them.
Get real! All of these real examples come from an outdated playbook. It’s (past) time to update with your authentic voice.
Research! Yes, it takes a moment to locate the right person but connect with the right person with a great email and you create momentum for the sale. It should feel embarrassing to have to ask, “Am I writing to the right person?” Write a great email and if they aren’t the right person, they’ll be happy to forward – possibly even advocate for you.
It’s our job as sellers to help them to be interested – not to bombard them with an email every other day that pushes, pushes, pushes.
Use brain-friendly language and paint a picture of their success and happiness. Instead of sounding desperate and like every other seller using the same old strategies, create excitement, offer content, add value.
And watch your closing rate sky-rocket!
