Your Prospecting Sucks – And 6 Tips to do something about It!

By April 23, 2021No Comments

How do you like the title of my new book?

I haven’t written it yet, but that is what I’m going to call it. Because it’s true.

Take this email (please!):

Hi Name,
Reaching out to introduce X as a possible site for the 2021 Small Pups Event.
For your convenience, I have attached some information for consideration.
Please let me know how I may be of assistance, and if you are interested in having me check availability and prepare a proposal for consideration.
Thank you.

WHY WOULD THIS COMPEL THE PROSPECT TO ACT?

WHERE IS THE VALUE PROPOSITION?

WHERE IS THE EXCITEMENT?

Here are a few quick fixes:
1. Stop thinking like a sales professional! Become your customer.
2. Create excitement for their success, happiness, business outcome.
3. Use business orientated terminology.
4. Have a reason that matters to them for interrupting their day with your email. Hint: Reaching out isn’t a good reason.
5. Take control of the next step.
6. Personalize. Research. Personalize. Research. Personalize. Research.

The point of prospecting is to intrigue your buyer so s/he will want to learn more. If you aren’t doing that, your prospecting sucks, (Sorry)

BONUS
Your buyer will buy from someone. Why not you?

Are you forcing your buyer into simply looking at price by not creating excitement and outcomes?

Whether email is your first or second option in your sales cadence, it must do more than simply say you exist and are interested! Make it easy for them to WANT to learn more and you’ll sell more.

PS. Please don’t pilfer my book title!
